Egret Spirit Drawing

Passing by an Egret on the road, or seeing one in a photo does not do justice to the amazing creature that they are. I rescued an Egret hit on the road with my daughter. We thought that it was a plastic bag blowing across lanes, but saw that it was a bird. We backtracked twelve miles and turned around to help. The bird was too badly injured by the time we reached the veterinarian, but it made such an impression on me. This bird was so beautiful, with such delicate structure and fine bones. It was so much lighter than I had thought it would be. After this experience, I have watched them hunt at the edge of a lake, and fly with amazing grace. This drawing pays homage to the spirit of these birds and their place in our world. I chose pastel because of the soft lines made on the paper. It reminds me of the soft texture of the feathers.
