Emmet Fox Drawing

I hope that this piece inspires hope, joy, and child-like wonder within the viewer. That it invokes the feeling of a playful spirit and whimiscal ease. I chose to draw on paper with pen and color pencil in order to create very small intricate details building upon one another in this vivid, geometric, lattice like pattern as well as a vibrant yet realistic face on the figure. This drawing is entitled, Emmet Fox, named after one of my favorite authors, who said, “the truth is that the whole of our life’s experiences is but the outer expression of inner thoughts,” and this piece was a playful representation of this metaphysical principle. It is about having a positive attitude, HOPE, happiness, and vigor for life! I started this ink drawing iin Teton National Park. I watched this fox bound in and out of the snow and was really inspired by its playful, whimsical, and free spirit. I am calling it Emmet Fox, named after the author of the book I was reading at the time, The Sermon on the Mount, a detailed metaphysical analysis on this teaching of Jesus. In his analysis Fox writes, "the truth is that the whole of our life experiences is but the outer expression of our inner thoughts," something I meditated on while creating this piece of art, the patterns within the fox represent our thought life, and this power it has to create or manifest our experience- represented by the patterning growing from inside the subject and out into the background. Like all my work, the vibrant color palette is symbolic of hope, joy, and love, and coupled with the intricate designs inside the figure, represents the presence of a power greater than ourselves underlying all life. The patterns are the idiosyncratic inner working of a power greater than ourselves, that changes us from the inside out, the flawless love of God, and when we start to see ourselves how He sees us, through Christ, we begin to live our lives differently by becoming more like Him- and our "outer experience" changes.
