Title: Maria and the Rescuers Medium: Pencil on paper Dimensions: 21cm x 29cm Description: Title: Maria and the Rescuers Description: "Maria and the Rescuers" is a poignant pencil drawing that captures a moment of respite in the aftermath of World War II. The scene is set on a porch area where three American soldiers are depicted sitting in a relaxed manner, their weapons resting beside them. Their faces reveal a sense of relief, perhaps due to the successful rescue of a young girl named Maria. Maria is shown standing before them, wearing a light blue top, a matte orange skirt with leaf patterns, army boots and socks, and a scarf. Her expression is one of gratitude and hope, as she looks up at the soldiers who saved her from danger. The drawing is masterfully executed, with meticulous attention to detail evident in the soldiers' uniforms and the folds of Maria's clothing. The shading and texture of the drawing imbue the scene with a sense of warmth and humanity, emphasizing the bond between the rescuers and the rescued. "Maria and the Rescuers" is a powerful testament to the courage and compassion of those who risked their lives to help others during a time of great turmoil and hardship.

Instagram profile: ----------------------- Education: -------------- 2011 - National Diploma in Fine and Applied Arts Tshwane University of Technology Pretoria, South Africa Artist statement: ---------------------- "I can't help but reflect on the beauty of everyday life. The simple moments that often go unnoticed, like a mother and child walking hand in hand, or the way the sunlight filters through the trees on a lazy afternoon. I've always been drawn to the raw, exposed instincts that make us human. The way we move and interact with the world around us. And so, I've made it my mission to capture these moments in my artwork. Through my expressionistic style, I've aimed to depict the wholesomeness of ordinary objects, and the way they connect us all. I've always been fascinated by the concept of love and how it shapes our lives. Love for our kin, love for our body, love for our partners, love for our work, and above all, love for our self. It's a driving force that pushes us to excel and prosper, and it's what I've tried to convey in my art. My sketches are elaborate and detail-oriented, with a focus on capturing the fleeting moments of life. The lack of color is a deliberate choice, as I believe it represents how all living souls are. The enigma of the art encompasses the vile divisions created by humans in the flesh. Each live soul has the same set of raw, exposed instincts, and inclinations just like any other. They all desire the same outcome from life. I want my art to be a reminder that life is more than just the big moments. It's the small, everyday moments that make up the tapestry of our lives. And it's my hope that through my art, people will find peace and tranquility in the soul, and be reminded of the beauty in the simple things."
