ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Murakami wrote in one of his novels: “ In woods as dark as the depths of her own heart, she hanged herself.” I reflect not on the morbid meaning of the words but the metaphysic way of “hanging” in the literal visual obscurity.
I have discovered a method which rests on instinctive memory. It is a method of drawing where I feel free of danger, and the constant judgements the mind makes in searching for the perfect and obsessive representation of face in a portrait.
I observe the face of the selected writer, then I close my eyes and I let the hand remember freely without the help of vision.
In this way I connect two things: the world of reading with the seclusion and intimacy that is characteristic of it.
It nullifies the present moment to immerse oneself in the mind; in the story and imagination.
I also transform my hand in a night reader in the way that, without sight, the hand is the one who wades through the paper, making its own path.
This is a way of connecting with the subconscious where all the narratives that left a mark coexist. The un lived remembered moments, other people’s stories, their worlds in which I have been invited into in some corner of the night.

Lucia () is an Argentine multidisciplinary artist specialized in drawing, with a recent foray into textile art. Her work addresses issues related to emotions, with an emphasis on the psychological aspects and consequences of anxiety, female condition and migration, themes that are part of her story. Lucia uses drawing and textiles as a medium within her experimental processes and is interested in new methodologies and sociologies of the processes by which the image is arrived at, such as drawing with her eyes closed, letting her hand remember and solve alone, without the help of sight. She also uses illustration as a medium in her artistic processes, often collaborating with different writers and being inspired by her texts to generate her own interpretations. In addition, she is a fashion designer so the new textile research has opened a new field of exploration in an area that is well known such as fabric and pattern making, from a different vision such as embroidery combined with acrylic paint on canvas, scraps and clothing. Her work has been exhibited internationally, such as in Peru (Galería Itinerant María, Lima), Argentina (Galería Essa, Córdoba), Algeria (Le petit Lecteur, Oran) and Austria (Pädagogische Hoch-schule der Diözese, Linz) , in addition to Barcelona (Cage, Tangent, Untitled, Art Lover Ground, Fabra i Coats, Center Civic Sagrada Familia, among others), the latter being the city where she currently resides.
