After the dust settles from a battle, win or lose, there's a moment of reflection in a person while they look over the chaos that once was. As the fight or flight subdues they look inward and for that split second even the strongest victor is weak trying to make sense of it all. Attempting to determine what it was they won or lost, measuring the actual damage done or the value of the win. I draw prominent, strong figures with introspective moments. Superheroes, everyday heroes, confident individuals who, for a split second, are human as they reevaluate try to make sense of it all. I use a soft charcoal stick for its bright contrast but also for its subtle marks. I use the natural charcoal marks, erasers, hands, fingers and paper towels to push and pull light and dark trying to develop some areas and leave others for the viewers to personalize. Superheroes, everyday heroes, confident individuals who, for a split second, are human as they reevaluate in an attempt to make sense of it all.
