The Howl of Guipago I am White Fire Devoid of light or sound I am the unseen shadow. On the land of burning ground Where hearts are split And hearts are spliced, But not the beast, Guipago Cursed with a heart of ice. He knew not whence he came, Nor whereto his kindred left. Left him to wander in solitude Uncared for and bereft. In an endless search for food Other packs he would find Ostracized with scars By his own ruthless kind. His white coat meant they thought that His heart was made of ice. Shrouded by societal norms Unmindful of their vice. Battling the shivering winters alone, Alone would he hunt and feed. Alone would he howl at the midnight moon When a pack had make him bleed. One day as the twilight Of his winters drew near Something happened, the cause of which Is still not quite clear. As he strolled on the eastern slopes Fur melding into the white, His eyes fell upon a cub Its clan nowhere in sight. His eyes met the little one’s Life flashing before his eyes, He wished not his curse on another The source of his muted cries. As twilight faded An icy howling sound Pierced every living being On the Land of Burning Ground. The pack of the eastern slopes Heard the icy howls And made their way at once Like silent swift owls. With the first shafts of sunrise The pup was reunited, With a dead white wolf and three dead bears Rather mysteriously sighted. The heart of the white wolf, Never found in its cadaver, Was frozen by loneliness, Shattered and vanished forever. Fear not the lonely paths. In their darkness, do not despair. For on these paths, Guipago’s howl Shall give you the strength of three bears.
