Halong Bay # 14 : The Half Drawing

Coupling with the "hen", this island is locally called the "male" or the "rooster". I guess the shape of this island is a bit bigger than the counter part, so it is considered as "male". I like the idea that it looks like a bateau or a gâteau on a crystal bowl. It could be a cardinal jay bird. I can't see the rooster shape though, but I could see the shape of a box fish... Overall, Ha Long bay could be seen as a rock garden in the ocean with thousands of sculptures. In this series, I use pencil, graphite and charcoal to sculpt onto paper the islands and to tell stories of the oceanic garden of Halong bay by including some of its accessories (boat, house, reflective, clouds, fog, mist..) in foreground, background.
