ABOUT THE ARTWORK
I explored the Northeast Los Angeles neighborhood of Highland Park in 2010 for my series, "California Fool's Gold, with my friends Autumn and Maryam. There was so much to see it took two days. One was so hot that an actor from Twin Peaks saw us and invited us inside for iced water. The next day it was cold and rainy and hailed and my new jeans stained my legs blue.

Eric Brightwell is an adventurer, explorer, cartographer, guerilla gardener, and writer... Eric Brightwell was born in Iowa City, Iowa but primarily raised in Lexington, Kentucky and Columbia, Missouri. Inspired by fantasy maps and text adventure computer games, he began drawing maps when he was about nine years old. He studied film theory at the University of Iowa where he made a point of visiting every block of every street in the city and its suburbs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he began exploring and drawing maps again, beginning with a map of Elysian Park.
