Inspired by the film La Noire de...(1966) by Ousmane Sembene, ‘I’ve never kissed a Black woman before’ depicts a scene of misogyny, racism and sexual harrasment. An White, elderly man forces himself onto a domestic worker, who is a younger Black woman and before he kisses her, takes time to note that had ‘never kissed a Black woman before’. She stares blankly ahead devoid of emotion but we can understand what she feels in that moment. In this scene he disregards her sentiments of being visibly uncomfortable in order to fulfil his fetish. In this one, I decided to put a face to the name of the feeling of harassment and uncomfortability. Especially for women of all colours, it's a look we can all recognise and sympathise with. I used graphite for this drawing to pay respect to the film, shot in black and white.
