'In Love With Art Nouveau' Drawing

Their was a dynamic phase in my early development as a visual artist and poet, that the black and white drawings and illustrations of Aubrey Beardsley and the elegant women in the illustrations, posters, and paintings of Alphonse Mucha both supreme masters the art Nouveau style, that preoccupied my focus and impacted my visual art technique and style during the 1970’s. Since then, I have always been intrigued by the energy, variation and mellifluous interaction of lines and designs in both my drawings and paintings. During that early period I was concentrated on connecting, integrating and synthesizing the drawing with the mat around the artwork, so that the composition of lines and forms of the interior composition flowed onto the mat. In this composition, the reclining women on a couch, created by sensual curvilinear contour lines that define her positioning and anatomical figure are carried beyond the drawing and are accentuated with continuity, design and ambience in the environment of the mat surface.
