This drawing is part of a series of eight drawings of direct observation of light and shadow on a window on the front façade of São Domingos Church, in Lisbon, Portugal. This church, built in the 13th century, has suffered several calamities over time, including the great Lisbon earthquake in 1755, which practically destroyed it. In 1959, the church suffered a huge fire, and the reconstruction poetically emphasizes the aspect of this event, preserving the appearance of a ruin. All the eight drawings of the series were made from the same place, on the church choir. The drawings were made during a year, throughout the various seasons, capturing the different effects of light that change the way you perceive the space and the ruin. The drawings were exhibited in a solo exhibition in the Gallery of Fine Arts Faculty in Lisbon (Faculdade de Belas Artes de Lisboa), in 2013. They were part of an investigation of light and shadow in different architectural spaces made by the author for her Master in Drawing concluded in 2013. The drawings are made with graphite, water colour and china ink on thick paper (300gr). The price indicated it is only for the drawing that is presented and does not include frame.

I am an architect and artist, living in Lisbon, Portugal. I have a master in drawing, by the Faculty of Belas Artes, Lisbon Portugal. And a PhD in Architecture, investigating space by drawing. My artistic work registers, in some way, the impermanency: the light and shadow, the vulnerability and transitivity of life. Some of my work is based on reality (e.g. a stone, a plant, a space, the sea), nevertheless, I understand that reality can be regarded in many ways, depending on what you propose yourself to look at, or, what are you able to see.
