ABOUT THE ARTWORK

In her work, she allows herself total freedom. The body, as it presents itself, is often censored. She removes this repressive censorship – frequently indicated by the shape of a bar - and gives it a different spot on the paper, shifting the censorship, so to speak. She emphasizes the importance of women recognizing sexuality as a means of connection, with others and themselves. Encouraging them to enjoy their bodies without self-criticism. Juliette chooses to remain anonymous, unfortunately, due to growing conservativeness of the beautiful naked human body.

Juliette du Marais is a Dutch born female artist educated at the Fashion Academy of Amsterdam (AMFI). She has a passion for creating detailed, realistic graphite pencil artworks inspired by the female body and sensuality. From a young age, Juliette was always sketching, from fashion illustrations to portraits. A couple of years ago she started to focus more on the erotic side of the female body. Women often forget that sexuality is about connecting, with others and with themselves. They are so used to self-criticism, instead they should enjoy their own body way more. The drawings are reflecting a soft, pleasant touch: an invitation to explore and cherish the entire body. In her work, she allows herself total freedom. The body, as it presents itself, is often censored. She removes this repressive censorship – frequently indicated by the shape of a bar - and gives it a different spot on the paper. Shifting the censorship, so to speak. She shows what needs to be admired. Juliette chooses to remain anonymous, unfortunately due to growing conservativeness of the beautiful unique human body. She lives and works in downtown Amsterdam, The Netherlands.
