Annette Mewes-Thoms loves water. She grew up at the coast of the German North Sea. Since her childhood, she studies the reflections of the water surface, what is a mirror of the universe. On the water surface, the lines start to move and to meander. These lines she has made on her topic. Annette Mewes-Thoms works with a concept and in various techniques. With marker, paintbrush or camera she crosses lines in several layers. She starts her works, especially her drawings and paintings, with one intuitive line. After this the drawing grows from layer to layer. The lines live, for they report the breathing of the artist, every trembling, every disturbance. Every work process is an exciting game like an adventure, whose exit is not foreseeable. Annette Mewes-Thoms works mean nothing – they mean what the recipient is able to discover in them.
