ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Sometimes one goes out on a summer night, look at the world around and sees in it a beautiful, perfectly drawn theatrical scenery. As in the fairy tale about Pinocchio, it seems one pokes a finger and through the broken gap will feel the ringing backstage emptiness of the universe. But the next moment, one’s attention shifts, and again hears the murmur of water in the fountains, the rustle of leaves, the singing of birds. The world did not disappear anywhere and did not stop sounding, just for a moment I became insensitive to the pulsation of life. I drew the figure of the girl in class from life, and the background was completed in the studio. The black and white spinning top in the foreground symbolizes the illusory nature of our world. The color scheme creates a feeling of ephemeral and unreality of what is happening, as in a dream. This drawing is from the "Secret Garden" series created between 2021 and 2022, inspired by my visit to the Orange Garden in Rome. This is a one-of-a-kind drawing made by me in gouache and colored pencils on high quality paper. The image is signed by hand on the front side. Not framed. Do not hesitate to contact me should you have any questions.

For the past few years, I have been concentrating on the theme of animate and inanimate nature. Starting with the theme of roots and delving into the beauty and variety of small details of flowering meadows. In the context of nature, I include lonely images of people as an integral part of the living world. In depicting human beings, for me, it is not only their physical beauty that is important, but also the transmission of their momentary mood, psychological well-being. Sometimes in my drawings I allow myself to be ironic about myself and what I find funny or remarkable in other people. But at the same time, I consciously avoid depressive and aggressive images, because it contradicts my inner ethic not to multiply the violence in the world. I would like to classify my work as Magical Realism, but I think my work reflects more of a psychological Existentialism, looking for its embodiment in natural motifs. 1995-1999 studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts and in 1999.
