Title: Memory Sculpture: Der Raum (The Room) Size: 29,5 x 38 cm Year: 2020 What would our lives look like, if we worked on our memories like they were sculptures? That is the initial question behind the concept of "Memory Sculpture" ("Gedächtnisskulptur.") "Memory Sculpture: Der Raum“ is based on the poem "Der Raum" by Mersolis Schöne. The poem is published in the "Jahrbuch der Lyrik 2021" (AG Literatur/Edition Art and Science) in 2021. “Memory Sculpture: Der Raum" is part of the series "Coupling", in which the Memory Sculpture symbolic language together with text merge in a poetic landscape. “Memory Sculptures” are located at the interface between Philosophy, Psychology, and the Fine Arts. The drawings are thinking tools based on a symbolic language. As material and symbol formations, they document the performative thought process. "Memory Sculpture Drawings" are the medium to design an internal architecture of sculptural memory. This work is signed on the reverse and provided with a work stamp as well as an artist stamp with information about the materials, year of creation, title, size etc.

Drawing as sculpting into oneself. "In Mersolis Schöne's artistic work, there are fascinating connections and correspondences between drawing, text, film, and music, on or in front of philosophical underpinnings and backgrounds, as well as between him and artists from all disciplines." (INSEL) Mersolis Schöne is a German Artist, Film Director, and Researcher based in Vienna, Austria. He is a member of Künstlerhaus Wien in Austria, The Professional Association of Visual Artists in Germany, and other associations. The Memory Sculpture drawings presented at Saatchi serve as process-oriented interaction and thinking tools to design an internal architecture of sculptural memory. They consist of a series of recurring symbols that are arranged in new compositions. Each symbol has a fixed meaning, and new meanings are created by combining these individual symbols into symbol formations. During the drawing process, places of reflection, encounter and conceptualization are to be created. For this reason, there is often interaction with other artists, in which the works are created during the performative exchange.
