Size: 100x70cm Medium: charcoal on paper Year: 2015 Frame: framed Condition: ready to hang Signature: signed on the back I love to look at the mountains from a distance. They look so majestic. Except, this is not a mountain. It’s what we leave behind. Could be wonderful things, ideas, dreams, great works of art, or horrible things, like useless grandiose monuments to our ego. It could be just garbage. This work is essentially an ecological manifesto. Because we can’t compete with nature, so all that we create is basically “mud”. If you enjoy life, if you love nature, keep them both clean. And if you love art, enjoy it, make it yours. In the process of creating this work, I used a small clay model to create the general feel of it. I wanted to give it a heavy feel, like different layers stacking on top of each other. Mud is heavy, but also fertile, so I made this work heavy by using charcoal as a medium, but also delicate and clean, great for a minimalist space.

I like to question everything. What is reality? What is the truth? What lies beneath the surface of things? People connect to images and symbols through repetition. We recognize something because we've seen it before. Art makes it possible to break this pattern, to create images (in this case) that reflect another order of things, being governed by another set of rules. Isn't that great? Doesn't seeing something new and unexplained excite you? Or maybe it scares you. Maybe you start questioning things, like I do. And that’s when the magic happens. Like listening to your favorite music for the first time, and thinking, well... it’s OK, and than, after listening to it multiple times you were forever hooked by the magic. I Hope this happens to you here. Always expect the unexpected. Darius
