This time when I went to the pond it was cold and wet, the cotton grass flowers long gone and a new beauty had replaced that of the summers. These images attempt to capture the wind as it moves among the grasses and stirs the water. Large charcoal drawing, drawn into and beneath, layered with the paint and pigment, reminding one of the slow processes of carbon storing, the layers of plant material and creatures, that are lying below the surface of the pond.

My painting is bound up with examination of the land, and in particular, the ephemeral, those forces and presences that cannot be seen but which change and shape the land. The work has taken me to a range of habitats to examine them in new ways and consider how each small part of our upland and lowland environment affects larger systems. I have a Master of Art (Fine Art) and BA Honours Degree in Fine Art from Manchester School of Art. Career highlights have included being selected for the Royal Institute of Painters in watercolour exhibition, Mall Galleries, (2024, 2023), ING Discerning Eye exhibition (2022) Sunday Times Watercolour competition (2020) and making live ice installations at the Whitworth Gallery and Victoria Baths Manchester.
