About The Artwork

Self portrait done in the Norwegian town of Tromso, above the arctic circle. In Norway I had been looking at the work of Odd Nerdrum and his students. I scratched away the charcoal with an eraser and a blade to reveal the highlights. This method can be seen to a greater extent in the work of Frank Auerbach, who was, and still is a great influence in my work. It has a ivory mount and an ebony frame, which in total measures 86cm x 65cm x 5cm. This drawing is part of a pair. The other drawing is that of my girlfriend at the time, Claudia.
