This drawing was created as part of my first series of works, entitled Posibilité. When I began Posibilité I sought to reflect both the fragile and arbitrary qualities of life in relation to the butterfly effect; I was fascinated by life being made up of a series of seemingly unimportant choices and decisions that link together to create the path of the individual. Back in 2013,when this was drawn, I spent a great deal of time contemplating what would have happened if I had made different decisions - not with regret, but rather with curiosity - for it seems that we are surrounded by endless possibilities, hypothetical realities in a sense, that exist in their own right but do not become physical realities until the individual makes a decision. I often wonder what happens with the alternative options; there seems to be a spark somewhere; at first, multiple realities in potential swim about our heads, then one of them becomes a true reality, whereas the others fade into the past. The series is focused on choice, time and solitude. It is composed of six original drawings. This drawing in particular makes reference to the importance of solitude in decision making, free advice is abundant in this day and age; sometimes helpful and sometimes not, but our decisions must come from within us, not from the outside. This piece is also a fragmented memory of a charcoal drawing I did the year before of a girl sitting on a chair staring out of the window, watching her life go by. That feeling, however loud or muted, seems to always be present; some part of the conscience is always watching the movie, the film reel running and spinning as life flies by with delight, desire and disaster. It is framed by a 6cm brown temporary mount and protected by a plastic wrap, both of which can be easily removed without damaging the original drawing.
