Always exploring memory, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle tries to offer, through his ethereal drawings, a vision of sensuality and the imprint it will leave in us. Self-taught, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle has always maintained an emotional relationship with his artistic practice: feelings are his favorite territory of exploration. From the design he goes where his instinct guides him, preferring to work with his own memories, his imagination or a moving model, rather than seeking realism. An obsession, the hands. Possessive, fragile or powerful, sensual or even anonymous, they arise like specters to capture the attention and to provide the essential emotional charge of the composition. With his erratic line, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle tracks down emotions to lay them bare. He explores the sensitive, the ephemeral, the fragile. By accumulation or erasure, the eye is lost and individuals disappear: infinite, perpetual embraces, by forgetting oneself or the other, traits and personalities fade. To express this research, a medium of evidence, drawing. Then the painting. However, even through it, the drawing reappears as an indelible mark. Saturation, breathing, his regrets are apparent: he crosses out, erases and underlines his point. Forbidding himself the eraser, his technique is in the image of his subject: embodied, raw, and spontaneous.

Self-taught artist, born in 1982, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle has developed a practice based on emotion and spontaneity. Fed up with words and concepts, he wanted to express himself in a different way and be in direct touch with materials. Deeply influenced by Schiele, Munch, but also drawing from diverse sources of inspiration like Antique or fantastic mythologies, Mapplethorpe, his work is in continual tension between passion, storytelling and aestheticism. Always guided by his instinct, Laurent Anastay-Ponsolle’s erratic lines search and reveal emotions. This is why he has now a strong link to contemporary dance and explores letting go. A bit less than ten years ago, Laurent felt “ready” to show his work and exhibit. This process -talking to people and making new encounters- was a true revelation. Since then, he took part in many solo and groups shows as well as performances. In 2020 he decided to stop all other professional endeavors to dedicate himself to his art.
