Meet the old giants, their active days long gone, they're currently spending their time sitting around watching the world pass them by, telling tall tales of ancient battles, themselves relics of a forgotten time. The world has forgotten them and their kind, but the children still thrill to be aroun...

David W. J. Lloyd was born and raised in Cardiff, South Wales – he’d have you believe he was raised by wolves, but that’s just nonsense, don’t listen to him. David trained as a fine art painter at the Falmouth School of Art & Design in the 1990s and produced paintings and drawings following his degree which were exhibited in the UK and sold to private collections around the world. After a two-decade career break working in TV and feature films, David returned to art in 2018 with and aim to make his first love his future career. Most recently his work featured in the Royal Cambrian Academy’s Winter Show and at Y Lle Celf at the National Eisteddfod of Wales as well as being shortlisted (D) by the hanging committee at the Royal Academy. He grew up in the 1970 and 1980s, on a diet of arcade machines, hammer horror double bills, sci-fi comics and blockbusting cinema. These elements inform the work alongside his deep love of Welsh and Celtic folklore and strange tales. His style is inspired by figurative art, magical surrealism, theatrical lighting, uncertain narratives, and old wives’ tales. David’s work is drawn from his ever-growing collection of original vernacular photography which ranges from Victorian CDV portraits to vintage postcards and ancient family holiday snaps. Working in a range of mediums, including digital art, drawing, painting and printing, David’s pieces are imbued with a dark and dry humour, multiple interpretations and an uncanny atmosphere. His labour-intensive pieces strive to portray a bygone world that is half-imagined, half-real, half-dreamt and full of beguiling stories.
