Drawing, Charcoal on Paper 21x29.5 cm The very name of the breed comes from the city of Beijing. The Chinese call the Pekingese Fu dogs. Pekingese belonged to the family of the Chinese emperor, were kept in the palace and were not available to ordinary residents. It was believed that these are small guardian spirits, and outwardly, the Pekingese are more like tiny lions than dogs. There is an ancient Chinese legend about the origin of the Pekingese: according to this legend, the king of animals, a lion, fell in love with a monkey in ancient times and took her as his wife; the cub born from this marriage inherited the funny appearance of the mother and the proud character of the father.
