Paisagem Dupla #07 Drawing

These drawings are about landscapes, memories of landscapes that I have lived in for many years, some for 50 years, some for twenty years, others for several years. These are landscapes that always surprise me, every time I revisit them, for their beauty, for their natural charm: their colours, their smells, their sounds, their shapes. These drawings are made from memory, from experiences built over the years, they are not drawings from natural observation. And they are essentially drawings, they are not intended to be duplications of these landscapes or replace them in any way. They are interpretations of these experiences built over the years. They are double drawings, also because during the process they are made on both sides of the paper. One side of the paper is registered more with lines, accentuating the shapes, the other side of the paper is registered with more colour, losing the rigid definition of the shapes. Separated and impossible to be seen together, one on each side of the paper, they forced a destruction, a cut, a game, which brought the two worlds together. That's why they appear corseted, because they present both sides, in small rectangles that are mixed, composing a new landscape. These drawings, in addition of containing the extended time of experiencing these landscapes by the author, also contain the long-time of the drawing process, what happened, the necessary adaptations until they were finished (and it lasted a long time: 12 months of execution). Now these landscapes belong to those who contemplate them, those who make them visions, memories, they are always something else, according to each desire of the viewer. The drawings are not framed, but have 2 solid wood slats on the back, which allows them to be suspended. However, the ideal is to frame them, as shown in the image. To do this, you should not remove the wooden slats, as they allow you to move away from the support, allowing you to better see the texture of the paper.
