This original acrylic ink was inspired by my desire to capture the form with a minimalist expressive line, describing movement and mood...just the essence of the female form. Each line I try to make a beautiful gestural stroke on its own, using a Japanese Sumi-e brush.

The ancient art of Zen painting uses an economy of line to express the inherent nature of the object. It is concerned with the spirit, and not technical depiction of the form.

The figure is such a familiar landscape to me. I've studied and drawn the figure for many years, and have gradually surrendered my attachment to academic representation. What may appear simple, comes from a lifetime of training and of looking, until I see the pure nature of an object.

A combination of acrylic ink and watercolor painted on heavy weight off-white textured watercolor paper.

"I am especially inspired by nature and the beauty of the human form. My art is constantly evolving, as I explore new challenges, and as life presents them. Much of my work has an emotional and spiritual element, and the nude has a special vulnerability that I find beautiful."
