ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Anyone for a cold beer? I spent last summer soaking this gingham bandana in cold water and wrapping it around my neck before long, hot motorcycle rides in the sunshine. And then usually, when I'd get to my destination, cracking a cold beer and pressing the condensed can to my face to cool off from the engine heat. This hyperrealistic drawing is my tribute to those moments, as well as a homage to my lifelong love of Americana – because what could be more American than a Budweiser can rendered in the patriotic colours of the national flag? The drawing took more than 80 hours to complete over a summer in London and stands at nearly two feet tall.

Amy Miles is an artist based in East London, working in a hyperrealistic style using coloured pencils and graphite. Inspired by artists such as Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol and Wes Lang, Amy’s work explores the relationship we have with objects, pop culture products and brands. Her work is influenced by a lifelong interest in Americana, the open road, cowboys, the 1970s, and her background in luxury fashion – which informs the way objects are presented alone on white paper. Most recently, Amy’s work has been featured in the Coloured Pencil Magazine, and she has attended London’s Slade School of Fine Art to develop a burgeoning painting practice.
