About The Artwork

"Sherlock Holmes" (watercolor on paper), depicts the famous fictional detective character Sherlock Holmes created by author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. This painting is about a specific episode in the Sherlock Holmes series , "The Scandal in Bohemia." Sherlock , a genius, known for his quick wits and keen sense of observation, is found playing the violin. His expressions in are that of introspection and wonderment, thinking about the only woman who beat him upto now, Irena Adler, the woman with "a soul of steel" and "a mind most resolute of men". Until he came to know her, he thought of women as objects and sources of clues and motives for the crimes that he investigated. As he plays the violin and the tempo of the music rises he thinks of Irena. What a lady! She walked 2 steps ahead of him in every move, and left him speechless in the end. The painting embodies his state of awe and deep thought about how his genius detective plans were beaten by a woman's wit...the beautiful Irena Adler,of dubious& questionable memory !
