Born 1950 in Heidenheim /Hahnenkamm (Bavaria) Germany1971-1976 student of Fine Art, Berlin-West at the "Hochschule der Kuenste" (University of Fine Art). My teachers were Professor Peter Janssen, Professor Klaus Fussmann and Professor Raimund Girke. Now I lives and work in Nuremberg. Drawings with pen and Chinese ink. My subject is complete disorder, system and time. The splash is the symbol of disorder. "Order of handwriting" from Dr. Kurt Jauslin, art critic, on the exhibition of the "Schein-Drawings". July 2nd, 2003 by Erlanger Nachrichten. Translation from Nicole Tomasek: Its not easy for graphic artists, if they dont switch to illustration, caricature or other applied forms of their profession. Hans Friedrich Uwe Schein doesnt do anything like this. The graphic artist from Heidenheim studied at the Academy of Arts in Berlin in the Seventies and lives in Nuremberg since 1998. For him pen drawing is the autonomous way of expression. His only one. Scheins drawings emerge from handwriting, which develop with them simultaneously. The pen that slides over the pages is a generator of signs, it brings out a cosmos of signs, from which the pictorial order is born. In the process it doesnt matter if the result is objective or abstract.Handwriting is never abstract, because it places characteristic signs, that refer to its inventor. In Scheins world of signs the emerging of pictorial order is thematical: A moving order. The handwriting fills the empty page with signs while time is passing. The hand moves constantly and creates a chaotic abundance of signs. Accordingly from the rhythm of beginning and repeting, a glimpse of order appears. Schein likes to play with his own name (i.e. meaning illusiveness, shine), which is also the central term of the whole aesthetic. "Chaos in order" is his name for a monumental series of paintings, refering to the original paradox, the creation of order out of disorder. But one doesnt have to take this metaphysical allusion for real. According to the second law of thermodynamics, which already dates back 150 years, chaos is recidivism and standstill, the collapse of order results from the equilibrium of forces, the loss of energy.Fast and slow drawings. Schein rightly relies on the energy his hand transfers onto the paper. When the hand stops, order doesnt collapse, but is maintained in its plural meaning in the standstill of the drawing. However, time in fact still plays a crucial role there.
