About The Artwork

A portrait of the Italian writer Goliarda Sapienza as Modesta; the free-spirited, disobedient and truth- seeking heroin in the book The Art of Joy. It's an artwork about belief and perseverance and an ode to female liberty and courage. I chose to do it in charcoal with strong contrasts to emphasize on the strong personality of the protagonist and the timelessness of the artwork.
