In these series of drawings I work with the integration of the environment in order to build a bridge between the figures and situations of flexibility and deformation in the background that is, a new space where light and shadow are the main characters. Among the female figures and fanciful beings that I introduce, we can find known characters in the oral history of certain parts of the island where I grew up. Long before people heard about the famous “Chupacabras”, I heard in my childhood years of the Pichu-Pichu, “El Kikirimiau” “El Cara-Diablo” (The Devil Face), “El Vampiro de Moca” (The Vampire of Moca) and many others. Many of these characters were battling in my child's mind to somehow take a shape.

I seek to project authentic, intimate interpretations of the world I encounter. As a native of Puerto Rico, I am influenced by the characters, emotions, images, and colors associated with the island. Sometimes I turn to my childhood memories to address the existential questions I want to express. I've recently explored the concepts of time, energy, light, and space through my paintings and drawings. This has led me to work with hybrid subjects and media that can converge figuration with traits of abstraction and surrealism. I use symbolism and distortions to bridge the figures and their environment, creating scenes where surrounding energies and time metaphors serve as the glue of an idea.
