Gaia Grossi is an Italian born - naturalized American visual artist, currently based in the Roman countryside. She lived in NYC for over 15 years where she studied at the Art Students League of NY and the NY Studio school of Drawing, Painting and Sculpture. For the past 10 years, after a career in journalism, she has been exhibiting her sculptures and paintings both in the US and in Europe. In 2019 she was granted the opportunity to build a 12 foot tall public monument for the Riverside Park of Manhattan, NYC. Since 2021 the monument has its permanent home in the Florida Keys. Her most recent body of work explores the theme of connection—both physical and emotional. Through a diverse array of forms, she aims to create a tranquil space amidst the chaos of daily life, weaving together an imaginary landscape. The delicate balance between the need for solitude and the instinct to connect with others is a dynamic she is deeply compelled to capture in her art. After exploring various media over the years, Gaia now finds herself drawn to the simplicity and intimacy of humble materials like paper, watercolor, wood pencils and clay. These elements feel particularly fitting for the new chapter of her life. Once immersed in the vibrant, fast-paced energy of New York City, where she worked on mixed-media sculptures, Gaia now lives in the serene Italian countryside as both a mother and an inspired homemaker. In this quieter setting, she finds beauty and structure in the daily practice of drawing and sculpting.
