About The Artwork

Swiss visual or graphic translation style was part of my influence. Realizing the volume of the form with the implied lines is achieved by using the simplest of marks. The freshness is bright and invites the viewer into the drawing to finish it the way the viewer sees most fit. This graphite technique is a process I developed in New Zealand during a sabbatical. I paint a sheet of paper with gesso, let it dry, pour mineral spirits over the dry paint, and make marks with Graphite sticks in the wet mineral spirits. This has evolved over the past 30 years. From my teenage years in high school, I have enjoyed drawing and making marks. While in graduate research in Basel Switzerland, mark-making was a vehicle for understanding content and images.
