UC Gyldenløve Distant view of Harlem's streets peaceful, yet vigilant. I combined two old paintings from European collection 1300-1700 from Statens Museum for Kunst: (1) Philips Koninck: "Dutch Panorama Landscape with a Distant View of Haarlem" and Abraham Wuchters: "Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve", to make a drawing about groundwater flooding which is an increasing problem in the modern world and with climate change and sea level rise, due multiple reasons, especially in urban areas. Did you know that UC Gyldenløve died in the age of 28 from malaria? Did you know that Abraham Wuchters was a danish painter with a dutch origin, and a personal drawing teacher for Christian IV (the father of UC Gyldenløve). Philips Koninck is believed to have been a student of Rembrandt, but we know for sure, that he was inspired by the great master. At statens museum for art in Copenhagen there is not really many paintings inspired by 'shallow groundwater'. This may be the only one of them, inspired by the countryside of Gelderland outside Haarlem in the Netherlands. Koninck was a master of panoramic landscapes. I placed Gyldenløve in this lowland panorama landscape as a traveller in the foreground, and imagined that the sky was full of rain and thunder, which could cause a groundwater flooding. At the time when these paintings were made 3-4 centuries ago, Haarlem was still a major trading port, and can be seen connected by a waterway to the North Sea.

Zonation paintings focus on integrating and balancing the elements: lines, tones and colours. I follow an expressionist painting philosophy inspired by Cézanne, Kleé and followers. Motives: Copenhagen cityscapes, croquis, stilleben. Artworks in acrylics, oil, aqua oil, multicoloured chalk, aquarelle and pencils. Art talk: Artist video: http://vimeo.com/5322606 Artist podcast (Fr): I use the acronym 'de Hansi' in order to distinct my painting activities from my professional work as a hydrologist. I am a Danish hydrologist currently working as a principal investigator and researcher at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland at Øster Voldgade 10, 1350 in Copenhagen (working in close cooperation with Copenhagen University institute for geology and geography). I am known for my research in the field of hydrogeology, with a focus on groundwater resources and their management, as well as the impact of climate change on groundwater systems. I have published many papers in the international scientific journals, and I am also a member of several scientific organisations.
