FLYCAT (Luca Massironi, Milan, Italy, 1970) is an Italian visual artist, author, and lecturer whose practice explores the transformation of the alphabetic letter into a universal sign. Emerging from the pioneering years of European graffiti writing in the early 1980s, his work has evolved into an interdisciplinary investigation of language, memory, spirituality, and contemporary visual culture. His artistic research led to the development of Fvtvrismo Cæleste, a theory and visual language that expands the expressive possibilities of writing beyond its urban origins. Rather than treating letters merely as vehicles of communication, FLYCAT approaches them as autonomous forms capable of carrying historical, philosophical, and spiritual meaning. Throughout his career, he has collaborated with leading figures of the international graffiti movement, including Phase 2, Kase 2, Chaz Bojórquez, and Rammellzee, whose mentorship profoundly influenced his artistic evolution. His works have been exhibited internationally and are included in public and private collections. In recent years, his practice has increasingly engaged with museums, academic institutions, and cultural organizations, reflecting a research that bridges urban art, contemporary painting, and visual theory. Alongside his artistic production, FLYCAT lectures on the history and evolution of writing culture and continues to investigate the relationship between the sign, language, and collective memory. His works are held in museum, institutional, corporate, and private collections, including the Italian Senate and the MuCEM – Museum of European and Mediterranean Civilisations in Marseille.
