About The Artwork

The main topic for my research is: Women working in a cotton industry through the perspective of feminism. During my stay at LIA (Leipzig International Art Programme), I have done my research about working conditions for women at Spinnerei. Spinnerei was the largest cotton mill in 20th century. The majority of workers were women. Spinnerei was built and constructed like a small town including different facilities for workers: kinder garden, residential areas, canteen and many more. Through the archival photographs, and diaries, I realized that working conditions for women were not equally good as for men, who mostly were taking head positions with much higher priorities and of course payment. As a result of my programme I came up with drawings where you can see some parts of female reproduction system. Also I have included the drawings of cotton structure and seeds. For this project I wanted to make a visual parallel between the similarities of cotton and female reproductive system organs. With the help of my produced art works I would love to pay my respect to all women who have worked not only at Spinnerei (Leipzig, Germany) but also in a cotton industry in Uzbekistan.
