ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Drawing: Ink on Paper. MISTER ARTSY / HENDRIK KARSTENS POPART / STREETART / URBAN / GRAFFITI / CARTOONS / TAGS / TOONS / Education: Art / Graphic Design Utrecht | the Netherlands Inspired by early works of Warhol, Disney and Lichtenstein, with a momentum of Klaas Gubbels. All the works of Warhol are superbe, Streetart, cartoons, comics, city graffiti, Jean-Michel Basquiat . Movies. AND MUCH MORE... Leiden / The Netherlands. In my childhood my parents took me to the Stedelijk museum and the Rijks museum. The early passion for art and design has arisen. Especially modern art in the city of Amsterdam was very exiting. Work by Barnett Newman, Willem de Kooning, was there to see live. The real paintings. And of course ANDY WARHOL!!!!!!!!!! To this day, this is a source of inspiration. I work abstractly and figuratively. Work has been purchased in the Netherlands and abroad. MISTER ARTSY POPART "Pop Art was the dominant movement in early 1960s American art. Short for “popular art,” it featured common household objects and consumer products like Coca-Cola and Campbell’s Soup cans, as well as forms of media—such as comics, newspapers, and magazines—recognizable to the masses. Artists often created Pop works using mechanical or commercial techniques, such as silk-screening. As Warhol suggested, the choice of mundane subject matter and machine-like techniques was a blunt rejection of the heroic subjects and methods of Abstract Expressionism, the leading American movement of the 1950s. Not often discussed is the fact that Pop Art originated in England and paralleled similar movements in France and Germany. Pop Art was incredibly diverse, especially in its international variants, which included Nouveau Réalisme in France, Capitalist Realism in Germany, and Anti-Art in Japan." STREETART "Some street artists have earned international attention for their work and have made a full transition from street art into the mainstream art world — some while continuing to produce art on the streets. Keith Haring was among the earliest wave of street artists in the 1980s to do so. Traditional graffiti and street art motifs have also increasingly been incorporated into mainstream advertising, with many instances of artists contracted to work as graphic designers for corporations. Graffiti artist Haze has provided font and graphic designs for music acts such as the Beastie Boys and Public Enemy. Shepard Fairey's street posters of then-presidential candidate Barack Obama were reworked by special commission for use in the presidential campaign. A version of the artwork also appeared on the cover of Time magazine. It is also not uncommon for street artists to start their own merchandising lines. Street art has become more accepted by the general public, likely due to its artistic recognition and the high-profile status of Banksy and other artists. This has led street art to become one of the 'sights to see' in many European cities. Some artists now provide tours of local street art and are able to share their knowledge, explaining the ideas behind many works, the reasons for tagging and the messages portrayed in a lot of graffiti work. Berlin, London, Paris, Hamburg and other cities all have popular street art tours running all year round. In London alone there are supposedly ten different graffiti tours available for tourists. Many of these organisations, such as Alternative London, ParisStreet. Alternative Berlin, pride themselves on working with local artists, so visitors can get an authentic experience and not just a rehearsed script. Many of these guides are painters, fine-art graduates and other creative professionals that have found the medium of street art as a way to exhibit their work. With this commercial angle they are able to let people in to the world of street art and give them more of an understanding of where it comes from. It has been argued that this growing popularity of street art has made it a factor in gentrification."

Mister Artsy Graffiti and Streetart . Art by Mr. Artsy aka Hendrik Karstens Urban art & Design . original art made by MA . Thank You Roots in street art and graphic design. Always inspired by minimal art. Especially the free abstraction, how to create an image with shapes and lines and monotonous colors. As a child I visited the Stedelijk museum in Amsterdam, all the modern masters were there. De Kooning, Kline, Ryman, Serra, and still they are a great inspiration. And also a painter such as Günther Förg is a source of ongoing discovery within the abstraction of my work. But also the linear works of Keith Haring and Warhol's drawings are among my favorites. Crazy about Calder... Mister Artsy . Amsterdam
