In 2016, I explored and made a map of the North Orange County suburb of Yorba Linda. It's probably best known for being the birthplace of Richard Nixon, whose presidential library is located there (which I naturally visited). The account of my adventure and the map were included in an entry of my series, "California Fool's Gold."

Eric Brightwell is an adventurer, explorer, cartographer, guerilla gardener, and writer... Eric Brightwell was born in Iowa City, Iowa but primarily raised in Lexington, Kentucky and Columbia, Missouri. Inspired by fantasy maps and text adventure computer games, he began drawing maps when he was about nine years old. He studied film theory at the University of Iowa where he made a point of visiting every block of every street in the city and its suburbs. After moving to Los Angeles in 1999, he began exploring and drawing maps again, beginning with a map of Elysian Park.
