At the age of 17 Jasmina Kirsch moved to the Netherlands where she worked in different jobs to finance her studies, finished her apprenticeship to become a tattoo artist and studied fine arts from 2006 - 2010 at the AKV St.Joost. Since then she has exhibited her work in different countries in Europe, NYC and LA. She moved to Berlin Germany in 2012 , where she lives and works most of the time out of her atelier-apartment in the colorful multicultural district of Neukölln. Her work has a strong focus on female sexuality, relationships and primal emotions. She wants her photographs to be like life itself. Often bewildering, mostly rough and within this roughness, sometimes purely beautiful. She photographed the series ‘strange touch’ during her 10 years in the Netherlands. Where she lived and studied fine arts at the AKV St.Joost. The result is a series of photographs that depict a feeling of strangeness. They give a glimpse into the beauty and the struggle between the instinctive and the emotional aspect of every day situations. In her paintings and drawings she researches femininity in all it’s facets. Fugaciousness and mortality is something she does not express by showing an aging process but she reference to it with the Skeletons and other symbols which appear in a lot of her drawings and paintings. “Life is an ongoing flirtation with death, ending in consumption.”
