ABOUT THE ARTWORK
this pastel is drawn on rough hand-made paper. I find my shapes in nature, this form is the inside of a tree base that has been cut down. the found shapes are the starting point of my composition, the colors and forms then dictate the direction the abstraction will take. I prefer to keep the colors pure and seperated so that the velvet quality of the pastels can be enhanced. Gallery represented artist with works through out Europe.

More than 20 years ago, I left New York for Amsterdam. The move, the city, the change in culture and of course the light influenced my new course. My focus from the fashion world moved quickly to the art world. In New York I studied at the Art Students League and graduated from FIT. In Amsterdam I graduated from the Wackers Academie. My work focuses on color relationships and shapes found in nature — landscapes, trees, clouds, and the changing colors of the season. It can be a small detail that starts the process which dictates the shapes, and then the conversation with color begins. The shapes contained within the composition are intuitive — one shape informing the next; one color dictating what color will follow. Working mostly in pastels but more recently I have diversified into other mediums.
