I chose the theme “Fake News” because of the political climate we have been in for this particular piece. The caution tape warns the viewer to have awareness of the dangers of technology as well as news that directs people to information that can be misleading from the government and the use of technology has helped the spread of this with extreme speed. It undermines our trust in and serious media coverage and we have to be wary of that. I used fabric with the Fake News imprinted on for the viewer to see it repeatedly and internalize it, while also roping off the piece with the caution tape that is usually used to warn or catch the attention of those who are looking at the artwork of a situation with possible danger or hazards. The name of this series is called Vigilance because we are always being monitored and how the spread of stories that are false and are consumed by millions of people is becoming more and more perilous to our society.
