About the Artist

Roauf Khalil Aqayi

Greece

I am a dedicated artist and wood marquetry craftsman, weaving stories through the delicate interplay of wood grains, color, and texture. Since 2003, wood marquetry has been my primary medium, and over the years, I have created numerous panels and tableaux that fuse craftsmanship, symbolism, and emotion.

My work lies at the intersection of tradition and innovation. Each piece begins with a vision—often drawn from nature, mythology, or human experience—and evolves through careful selection, inlay, and finishing of woods. I also explore pyrography (wood-burning) techniques, enhancing my compositions with depth and dimension.

I believe that true artistry demands both patience and curiosity. I spend hours honing proportions, aligning veins, choosing contrasts, and ensuring each element contributes to a cohesive whole. For me, wood is not just material—it’s a living medium that speaks through its patterns, history, and tactile presence.

Beyond creating, I see myself as a storyteller and translator: translating a feeling, a memory, or a narrative into tactile visual form. My goal is to bring viewers into an intimate dialogue with the materials, to invite reflection, and to bridge the gap between the seen and the felt.

On SaatchiArt, I share my current wood marquetry and mixed-media works, and I welcome collaborations, commissions, and conversations. Let’s connect through the language of line, wood, and meaning.
