About The Artwork

The artwork inspired by Tamara de Lempicka's "La Musicienne", painted in Paris, 1929. For the character of the musician, who plays a lute-like modern mandolin, Lempicka chose her female lover, Ira Perrot and painted her as an allegory of music. It is not just a simply reproduction, the string artwork was created with the use of the innovative, modern technique, having nothing to do with classical painting. Our string artwork is a part of art project dedicated to Tamara de Lempicka, the great Polish Art Deco diva. One of de Lempicka's art collectors called Tamara the first Pop Star of the century. The artwork is made ONLY and exclusively with thread in different colors/types/thicknesses. ONLY the thread is responsible for creating the entire picture, nothing is painted underneath! We don't use any painting technique. Our technique of colorful, photorealistic string art is still very little known. There are only a few artists in the whole world who can create this kind of artworks. A string portrait in the full range of colors can be an extraordinary element of interior design, regardless of its style - modern, classic, minimalist. String paintings will find a place in practically every arrangement. New Media, Algorithmic Art on Wood Plywood, 60x80cm/ 23.6x31.5" 16000 connections 7.7km/ 4.8miles of the thread 41 types/colors of the thread 548 nails How do we do this? We have our own know-how, methods we were working on over two years, which guarantees an original and unique look. To create a string art we use a computer program we created ourselves from the ground up, to become our work tool. So, first in a computer we're creating a project of the artwork. We're planning it very precisely, until we're satisfied. It usually takes several to over a dozen hours. When it's ready, our next step is to create the actual artwork directly in line with the project. This stage takes not hours, but days.

The Vistulart project was formed to create a series of collaborative works we had in our minds from a long time. There are two of us, Dariusz Plutecki and Dagmara Świrska, a scientific mind and a humanist. We’re both self-taught artists based in Warsaw, Poland. We’re working together as the new media art duo and it is not a secret we’re also a couple in private live. Our passionate pursuit of art was one of the things that brought us to each other over 15 years ago and got us where we’re now. We like to call ourselves a thread painters. In other words, we create artworks using nothing else but miles of a fine sewing thread in different colors, types and thicknesses. Apart from a wooden board and a few hundred steel nails, it is the threads that are our paramount medium we create the entire picture with. We work on the basis of our own technique, that has nothing to do with the classical painting technique. The threads are our sole paints, there is absolutely nothing put on the threads or underneath. Our adventure with this technique has started about three years ago, with pandemic time. Lockouts and all the stay-at-home orders turned out an opportunity for us. We have started a new chapter in our life, focusing on living for a passion. Dariusz spent long months creating a proprietary techniques and finally he got us our own working tools & methods. The complete know-how. Then it took some more months to consider we’re ready to lay our artworks before the public… Anyway, as we like challenges and constantly raise the bar higher and higher for ourselves, I believe we’re getting more proficient at what we do with each alternate artwork. We’re trying to explore new areas, being innovative by looking for new subjects no one has tried before in this technique. The main dominant motif in our works is the beauty of a human being. We’re constantly searching for an inspiration, oscillating around the issue of human condition. We also keep on developing new collaborations and planning some future exhibits. Currently, we have an ongoing partnership with two significant art galleries from Warsaw, which - especially as artists without art studies - we are proud of: https://galeriastalowa.pl/en/artists?id_artist=643 https://totuart.com/en/artysci/plutecki-swirska We hope that our art will evoke pleasant emotions so that people can enjoy our paint-free paintings as much as we enjoy creating them. Peace! D&D About us: https://culturainquieta.
