Painting gives form to my sensibility, it allows me to be me in the truest sense. I am naturally restless; I work very directly and intuitively, orchestrating marks and shapes to let each painting evolve to find its own identity, somewhere between abstraction and figuration. Living and working in Wales has led me to convey the cyclical movement and energy of the natural world, to create work that is of an elemental nature. My work is based on my experiences, memories and responses to particular moments. I seek to convey a sense of time unfolding, where nothing is static but forever in a state of becoming and where a sense of permanence and impermanence are implied. I work in series, they are on-going, seldom finished, I am able to return and develop the same theme time and time again, possibly using different media, forms and scale. In my Bloom series I have used watercolours and inks with collaged Japanese papers, the more defined shapes suggest botanical references.

United Kingdom
The focus of my practice is rooted in my experiences and response to my surroundings. Whilst living in London it was the urban environment that provided source material for me to excavate and develop but since moving to Wales, 27 years ago, the focus of my attention has shifted from the urban to the natural landscape. I work in series, very often repeating the same motif but in different configurations and scale. Just as my focus of inspiration lies at the edges of the air, land and sea, my creative practice lies in the area between the intentional and incidental. Working at these edges demands a mind-full awareness and presence that embodies my experiences of the world. Over recent years I have been exploring a broader, fresher colour palette using gardens and botanic references as my inspiration to create work that celebrates life with the intention of being joyful and up-lifting.
