Becoming Animal is an art piece that originated from a black and white photograph capturing me on all fours in an animal mask alongside my dog on the couch. The transformation unfolds as the acrylic painted walls serve as a canvas, enhanced by writings and drawings using a china marker. The deliberate choice of this mark-making by turning the piece upside down adds a unique dimension, fostering a more liberated and primal representation of our natural tendencies. It also pays homage to Roger Ballen and Basquiat.
