Pulling from a lifetime of portraiture, Jeremy Cowart builds his work first with charcoal on Hahnemuhle archival rag paper. Once rendered, the armature of his work is photographed in-studio using a 50-Megapixel Canon 5Ds to achieve a high-resolution digitalization of the art. Balancing only digital photographic basics in post-production, the art is not manipulated or digitally perfected, but additionally honed. Using Adobe and iPad creative suites, he then adds composites of portraits and photographs that span his 20-year career. Once the digital media is balanced into comprehensive, layered collages, Cowart uses his tenure of editing experience to digitally craft sketches over the large scale mixed media abstractions.

Jeremy Cowart is a Nashville-based fine artist working in the mediums of mixed media, photography, and empathy. A juggernaut in the commercial photography world, Cowart left the acclaim of working with celebrities and being named by national magazines as one of the most influential photographers of his time to innovate in richer soils. His fine art explores identity, abstraction, genesis, and moves to inspire unity by presenting large scale organic visuals with kinetic narratives transcending the present moment to pull from every place, every time to find commonality among his worldwide viewers. This isn’t Cowart’s first exercise in building work from a foundation of empathy. His seed location for the global installation of The Purpose Hotel first raised over $750k dollars on Kickstarter, igniting an international press frenzy for the concept, before raising nearly $680k on the same platform. The hotel is designed to power global change both actively and passively: with each room booking, a child gets sponsored and internet fees fight human trafficking; every product is sourced from global partners making a difference; furniture creation provides jobs for those in need; coffee beans in each room are ethically sourced; art features the beauties and realities of global narratives and aid. Cowart’s professional legacy confirms what he holds to be true: there’s more to unite us than to divide us, and creative innovation can speak hope with lasting success into issues locally and globally. A graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, Cowart built his way to the genius work he renders today by believing in possibility outside of academically defined success. His autobiographic video “I’m Possible” went viral in 2016, amassing over 2.5 million views. It details his early struggles, failures, and ultimately his liberation from those confines to find sprawling global success. The message continues to be reinforced: Cowart’s series “Voices of Gatlinburg” was picked up by TIME, USAToday, My Modern Met and others to bring recognition to the wildfires decimating most of Gatlinburg, TN and to provide recovery to those most impacted; his series “Resilient Light” gained similar exposure to provide aid following Hurricane Irma. His success continues and his grounding in empathy presents itself constantly. His gallery work shows the same degree of thought, and of acclaim.
