Butterflies pass through Ohio as part of their migration route from mid-July to mid-August. I spotted this one at a Cleveland MetroPark and was impressed by its bright colors. I simplified the background with digital watercolor brushes and used digital brushes and other techniques of digital art to bring out the idea of a fleeting moment in time. Butterfly Moment in Time, original photograph with hand painting using digital paintbrushes, 24 x 16 inches on paper. Limited to ten of this size range on this type of printing surface. This is a signed and numbered original photograph with a signed certificate of authenticity on archival acid and lignin free fine art paper using premium pigments. This title is also offered in editions of ten original signed and numbered photographs of small, medium, or large size on fine art paper or ready to hang canvas or ready to hang face-mounted acrylic. Please contact curator@saatchiart.com for more details. Working with a custom fine art printing house using the highest quality archival methods and materials, I give personal attention to the production of each original photograph and individually sign and number each photograph and the included certificate of authenticity only after personally ensuring that it is produced to the highest standards. Photographs with the same title within the same size range and surface category are limited to an edition of 10, numbered 1/10 through 10/10.

I first got interested in photography as a young man, when a close relative loaned my his beloved twin lens reflex camera and taught me how to process the film and make prints in his basement darkroom. I've been shooting ever since. My first college was as a photography major at the Cooper School of Art. but I changed my major when I transferred to Cleveland State University. I continued to take photography and art classes along with my other coursework. I ended up with a Master of Arts Degree in Education and a career as a teacher. I continue to study photography and art. When it comes to the digital darkroom and the use of digital paintbrushes, I am mostly self-taught. I gravitate toward scenes of nature - landscapes, water, mountains, wildlife, plants and flowers. My style leans toward photo-impressionism, abstraction, and abstract expressionism. 'Straight out of the camera' with minimal adjustments is often all that I need to get my message across, but sometimes I use various techniques of digital art and traditional photography. For example I might use in-camera approaches such as long exposure, depth compositing, selective focus, multiple exposure, or intentional camera movement to capture a particular moment or feeling. Sometimes I make use of techniques of the digital darkroom, such as depth compositing, photo collage or image blending to emphasize a unique connection or an experience. I often add hand painting with digital paintbrushes to a photograph, or use the pixels from my images to create my own paintbrushes. Some of my work is created completely with digital brushes, based on my photo reference. For questions or special requests contact . I'm open to requests for certain sizes, printing surfaces, or custom framing in keeping with edition limits and my artistic vision for a particular image.
