About The Artwork

Carmen Anzano was born in Barcelona and as a teenager began her training in Arts and Crafts and then graduated in Fine Arts from the faculty of Barcelona. Her first exhibitions began in the eighties. Her work is expressed within a lyrical abstraction, which has evolved towards a geometric abstraction. In 1991 she was invited to participate in the "El Triangle Artist Workshop" in New York, directed by the sculptor Antony Caro, where she created a series of paintings / sculptures. These would start the course of development of all her subsequent works. Since then she has held collective and individual exhibitions in Madrid, Barcelona, Cantabria, Morocco, Paris and Italy among others. Some of the projects mentioned, carried out together with Martín Carral whom she knew during her artistic training, have united life with art. Noteworthy in the collections are the works of the Fundació Vila Casas, Can Framis, Barcelona. Unicaja Collection of Plastic Arts (Malaga). Coca-Cola Foundation Collection (Spain) Caja de Cantabria collection. North Collection, Government of Cantabria. Currently her work focuses on the expressive investigation of the sensorial through various materials and techniques: paper, thread, rope, wood and metal, maintaining her poetics, both in her pictorial and sculptural pieces as well as in her installations. Carmen Anzano leaves her bodily and emotional imprint on each work, implying the concept of the mental, the tangible and the intangible.
