Depictions of Discernment, a.k.a. Art from Art Appreciation is a series which investigates the feasibility of manipulating data visualisation techniques to create abstract art which represents the online social media activities of groups of art appreciation societies. Interaction data from Facebook art appreciation groups, in this case the 'Fine Art Photography' group, was captured and manipulated to graphically represent the sharing of images, commenting upon, and Liking of the same. The patterns that emerge over time where members interact with sole or multiple art appreciation posts create unique pieces of art in their own right. The data visualisation algorithms used in the creation of this print were seeded with the artist's personal details to ensure a one-off personal representation of each data set. Quality Notice: Saatchi Art Online are heavily compressing requested small jpeg files for display here. The above images show noise artefacts around the lines which will not appear on printed products. Display JPEG files are an average 1.8Mb in size, printing TIFF files are an average 39Mb in size. This edition is a 20" x 30" original photo print, mounted on an aluminium dibond panel and sealed under a UV protective film. A ready to hang integrated float-effect hanging system is attached to the rear. A Certificate of Authenticity is supplied.

David Crosby, born and raised in London, but later schooling and family life was away from the hustle and bustle after a relocation to Middle England. After years in a beautiful Georgian stone town with a vibrant community of artistic and creative people to inspire him, he now works listening to the cries of seagulls in a south western Devon seaside town, nature calling constantly. His botanical works are a juxtaposition of the fine arts and the detail afforded by macro photography. A complementary combination of aesthetics and the beauty of natural world geometry. The transition from technically perfect photography to the adoption of a fine art style came naturally from his long term appreciation of this finesse across all genres. When creating, he begins a piece with the final result in mind but is always open to new processes along the way. His expectation is that when people see his work they are able to feel the beauty in the subject that first captured him. Part of his joy in working on a new piece of art is the sense of contentment at being able to recreate visual experiences and the anticipation of future sharing. Whilst working within photography he is reminded that he is capturing a moment in time, be it staged or natural, a literal and graphical snapshot of history. More recently David has also been studying the works of the generative artists, those artists who sculpt computer art with algorithm manipulation. Their ability to map the numeric world to the artistic is inspiring him to create similar and Is looking forward to sharing those pieces.
