When his howling became too much even for the pack, he was left on the side of the road where a veterinary acupuncturist and his braille proofreading wife took pity on the sorry sot and raised him to be the cantankerous, curmudgeonly, Medusa-haired youth his educators came to know and abhor. After a tumultuous kindergarten where he walked 6 miles to school each way - uphill - without shoes or lunch (to build character), Budly grew to be a legend in his own mind and developed an aversion to public parking lots, beets, stadium events and activities requiring small rapidly moving projectiles.
