ABOUT THE ARTWORK

‘Exposed’ is a female nude whose framing focuses on the part between the bust and the top of the thighs. In fact, the model is not quite naked but is in the process of stripping off her body, exposing herself to the viewer's gaze (hence the title of the work), by pulling aside the sides of a silk negligee. In doing so, she does not show her flesh, and the result is neither erotic nor realistic, since a large graffiti covers the entire surface of the body as well as the garment, which disturbs the reading of the curves that we should have. What's more, the graphic treatment, with bold swathes of colour delineated by black and white lines, is reminiscent of the abstract work of Piet Mondrian, which makes this nude all the more erotic: colour has taken precedence over form. This painting is a one-off, produced using a mixed technique on canvas, combining photography, digital composition and acrylic paint (with many layers of transparent glaze and a square in relief). The painting is framed in black wood (overall dimensions: approx. 57 x 82 x 3.5 cm).

« In the age of digital technologies, I couldn't just be a painter or a photographer. My 'paintographies' bring down borders between techniques and offer a resolutely contemporary hybrid art. » I was born in 1975 in a small town in the French countryside and arrived in Paris in 1992 for my studies (History, English and literature). I have been a professional artist since 2007, with over 80 exhibitions across France and Europe. My artistic approach is both simple and complex. Although my work portrays a figurative aesthetic that favors clarity, it does so through a complex blending of photography, digital art, and acrylic painting. The result is a mixed technique I call ‘paintography’. My compositions highlight the fragility of the human body. I transform my model into virtual sculptures by replacing their skin with mineral materials to represent the passage of time.
