ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Front and Center and all Around is part of series called: Mind Springs that all started with a found object, antique bed springs. Each piece in the series (there are six pieces, sold separately) expands on my interactions around the spring. I am interested in balancing the positive spaces, working with the proportions of the patterns and integrating the spring to create a 3-dimensional wall sculpture with strings hanging freely. All the imagery is my photography printed on transparency that interacts with light to create shadows and a new visual experience.

Gwen Samuels is an installation artist based in Los Angeles with a studio in Santa Monica. Inspired by close observations of her surroundings, she has sculpted the reformatted shape of animals, insects and dresses with delicate hand-stitching and free hanging strings. She also expresses her imagery in textile, cultures, travel and architecture often with repeated patterns and irregular shapes.
